Rams fall to Dolphins 23-15 on Monday Night Football

INGLEWOOD, Calif. – The Rams fell 23-15 to the Dolphins on Monday Night Football at SoFi Stadium.

Kicker Josh Karty’s five made field goals of 34, 55, 53, 22 and 31 yards were good for Los Angeles (4-5)’s only points in the game against Miami (3-6).

The Dolphins needed just five plays on the opening drive to reach the end zone, taking an early 7-0 lead on an 18-yard touchdown run by wide receiver Malik Washington.

Los Angeles went 3-and-out on its first two offensive series; on the third, Stafford’s third-down pass was tipped and intercepted by Miami linebacker Anthony Walker Jr. LA managed to hold Miami to a 50-yard field goal, but it extended the Dolphins’ lead to 10–0 early in the second quarter.

Linebacker Christian Rozeboom’s interception with 10:18 left in the second quarter gave the Rams nearly perfect field position, returning the pick to the Dolphins’ 14. An illegal blindside block penalty, called at the Dolphins’ 28, brought the ball in motion. back to the 43. On the next play, the Rams gave the ball right back to the Dolphins after a fumble by running back Kyren Williams.

Karty’s 55-yard field goal – a career long – cut the Rams’ deficit to four just before halftime.

The Rams’ opening drive of the second half was derailed by a high pop and later a false start penalty that canceled out a successful 52-yard field goal attempt by Karty. His 57-yarder following the penalty was off, missing wide right and keeping the score at 10-6 Dolphins midway through the third quarter.

Miami capitalized on the missed field goal with a 1-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Tua Tagovailoa to wide receiver Tyreek Hill at the end of the ensuing series, to extend the lead to 17-6 with 5:32 left in the third quarter .

A 53-yard field goal by Karty made it a one-possession game early in the fourth quarter.

On the ensuing possession, an unnecessary roughness penalty against the Rams on first down took the Dolphins from their own 30 to their own 45. Although the Rams managed to hold the Dolphins to a 37-yard field goal attempt at the end of the drive, The Miami’s lead was still 20-9 with 9:07 left in the fourth quarter.

As the Rams reached the Dolphins’ 4-yard line on the ensuing drive, they were forced to settle for a 22-yard field goal by Karty to cut their deficit to eight with 6:34 to play.

Dolphins kicker Jason Sanders made a 50-yard field goal to extend the Dolphins’ lead to 23-12 with 2:38 remaining. The Rams reached the redzone on the next drive, but again had to settle for a field goal, this time from 31 yards out by Karty.

Karty’s fifth field goal made it 23-15 with 38 seconds left, but the ensuing onside kick was unsuccessful. And with Los Angeles out of timeouts, Miami was able to run out the remaining clock to secure the win.
