Rams hire former Nebraska coach Scott Frost for versatile role: sources

The Los Angeles Rams are hiring Scott Frost for a versatile role on their staff, team and league sources said Sunday.

Frost, who coached UCF from 2016-17 and Nebraska from 2018-22, has spent time with the Rams this spring in organized team activities and training camp. Los Angeles has been working to formalize Frost’s role since last week after parting ways with assistant special teams coach Chili Davis.

Frost will assist on special teams, but will also be asked to contribute in various roles across all three phases — offense, defense and special teams, the sources said.

The 49-year-old played in the NFL from 1998 to 2003 with the New York Jets, Cleveland Browns, Green Bay Packers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers before becoming a college coach. At UCF, he turned the Knights from 0-12 in 2015 to 13-0 in 2017. At Nebraska, he went 16-31 over parts of five seasons before being fired in September 2022.

As an assistant coach at UCF, Frost served as linebackers coach, defensive coordinator, wide receivers coach, quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator. Frost’s special teams experience as a player and coordinator on both sides of the ball made him an interesting candidate for the Rams in this versatile role.
