Rams WR Puka Nacua out against Lions with knee injury

Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua, who earned a Pro Bowl honor as a rookie last season, has been ruled out of Sunday’s game against the Detroit Lions with a knee injury, the team said.

During the second quarter, Nacua landed on his knee while making a catch and limped off the field before receiving a lengthy evaluation from medical personnel in the blue tent along the sideline. He eventually returned for a few plays, but was substituted again and sat on the sideline bench to talk to medical personnel. Tyler Johnson took his place on the field.

The NBC broadcast showed Nacua being carried off the field to the locker room. He finished the game with four receptions for 35 yards.

Nacua missed several weeks of training camp and the preseason with a knee injury he sustained during a joint practice with the Los Angeles Chargers. Rams coach Sean McVay said Nacua landed on a bursa sac in his knee at the time.

In addition to Nacua, Rams starting left guard Steve Avila was also absent due to a knee injury.

The Rams drafted Nacua with the 77th pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. He set NFL rookie records for receiving yards and receptions last season, having 105 receptions for 1,486 receiving yards and six touchdowns in 2023.
