TULSA, Okla. (KTUL) — A rare comet discovered in 2023 will be visible Sunday evening.

The comet A3Tsuchinshan-ATLAS passed just 70 million kilometers from Earth yesterday, the closest it has come to Earth in about 80,000 years.

To view the comet, go outside around sunset and look just a few degrees south of west. The comet will become visible about 10 minutes after sunset and disappear below the horizon about 45 minutes after sunset.

The comet will be visible for much of October, but will become slightly smaller each night as it moves further from Earth.
