Ravichandran Ashwin shows Virat Kohli-like aggression, threatens to attack teammate in TNPL

Veteran Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin looked furious during the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) 2024 Eliminator between Dindigul Dragons and Chepauk Super Gillies. The match between the teams took place on Wednesday (August 31) at the NPR College Ground in Dindigul.

Ravichandran Ashwin was one of the key factors behind Dindigul Dragons’ victory in the Tamil Nadu Premier League Eliminator. The veteran Indian off-spinner led from the front against Chepauk Super Gillies and ensured that he took his team to the next stage of the tournament.

The all-rounder was also at his best and wanted to win the match, which was clearly visible when he got furious with his teammate during the chase and sat in the dugout furiously after his team’s player didn’t give him his all during the run.

In the 16th over of the chase, Dindigul Dragons’ Shivam Singh and C Sarath Kumar were in the middle. On the second ball, Kumar played a poor stroke but was fortunately dropped by the fielder. This upset Ravichandran Ashwin who was sitting in the dugout, near the boundary lines.

Ravichandran Ashwin got up from his washing in anger and was seen hurling abuse at his teammate. He even threatened his teammate. This video went viral on social media with many praising the off-spinner for his intensity even though it was not a big match.

Here’s the video:

Ravichandran Ashwin played a significant innings for his team. The off-spinner promoted himself and walked to bat at No. 3. He smashed a magnificent half-century and ended with an innings of 57 runs from 35 balls. The all-rounder batted at a strike rate of over 162 and also hit 4 fours and 4 sixes in his innings.

Ravichandran Ashwin added 101 runs in partnership with Shivam Singh (64). Their sensational partnership took Dindigul Dragons close to victory before contributions from C Sarath Kumar (12) and Suboth Bhati (14*) took the team home by 4 wickets on the penultimate ball.

We will have to have a chat but the most important thing was that we closed the match – Ravichandran Ashwin

Ravichandran Ashwin, who won the Player of the Match award for his heroics, admitted that it was not a perfect match for them but they did well to close out the match. He said that as an international player it was his responsibility to do well and they would like to do well in the next matches. After the match he said:

“Pressure does this kind of thing (in a near collapse), we’ll have to have a conversation, but the most important thing was that we closed out the game. It was an imperfect game, despite our poor bowling and fielding, we held them to a low score.

“As an international and IPL player, the responsibility was on me to do well (with the bat). We didn’t play the perfect game but hopefully we can do well in the coming games. Grateful for the crowd that turned up.”
