Real Madrid 0-4 Barcelona: Barca beat rivals to move six points clear at the top of the League

Robert Lewandowski scored twice in three second-half minutes to put Barcelona on their way to a 4-0 win over Real Madrid in El Clasico.

Lamine Yamal and Raphinha also scored to add more misery to Madrid, who were left open at the back as they tried to claw their way back into the tie.

Los Blancos entered El Classico on a run of 42 La Liga games unbeaten and just one shy of Barcelona’s own record.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side could have taken the lead before halftime, but Kylian Mbappé was offside six times and had a goal disallowed.

The 36-year-old Lewandowski’s experience was telling in the second half when he beat the offside trap to break the deadlock and scored a running header three minutes later.

Lewandowski should have settled the tie but missed two guilt trips, giving Madrid hope of a bounce back.

However, Los Blancos were cut open twice more, with Yamal and Raphinha taking advantage and recording a memorable win.

The result means Barcelona are now six points clear at the top of La Liga.

Talking Point – Barcelona has the courage to extend their lead

Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick produced a tactical masterclass as his side ruthlessly ended their rivals’ unbeaten run.

The visitors’ high and tight defensive line meant that Mbappé became frustrated in the first half and was constantly offside.

Madrid were offside 12 times in the match and when they broke through, goalkeeper Inaki Pena was equal to their efforts.

On the counter-attack, Barcelona were ruthless in the second half, with Lewandowski timing his run for the opener perfectly.

Lewandowski’s quick second was the perfect moment for the visitors, who saw off their frustrated hosts on the break.

Player of the Match – Inigo Martinez (Barcelona)

The 33-year-old was at the heart of a brilliant defensive performance against one of the most powerful attacks in the world.

Martinez was a key figure in Barcelona’s victory, holding the defensive line perfectly to continually catch Madrid offside.

When Vinicius Junior and Mbappe found their way through Martinez, he was set for some excellent challenges.

Keeping a clean sheet at the Bernabéu was just as impressive as scoring four at the other end.
