Report: Bulls are actively trying to trade some star players

According to a report, the Chicago Bulls are still trying to effectively reset their rebuild by moving on from their two most prominent players.

According to Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun-Times, the Bulls are trying to trade “active” guard Zach LaVine and center Nikola Vucevic. Cowley adds that a key motivator for the Bulls is the fact that they can keep their first-round pick from moving to the San Antonio Spurs, which is currently protected in the top 10.

While a lot of attention has been paid to potential No. 1 pick Cooper Flagg, the top of the 2025 draft is expected to be one of the more talented classes in recent memory, and the Bulls don’t want to miss out. They are at risk of losing the pick due to Demar DeRozan’s ill-fated sign-and-trade acquisition in 2021.

The Bulls have been trying to trade LaVine for a while now, and they seemed to really ramp up their efforts this offseason. It still led nowhere, as LaVine’s $43 million history of cap hits and injuries made him a relatively unattractive trade chip. Making matters worse is the fact that he has two additional seasons left on his current contract after this season, although the second year is a player option. Vucevic is cheaper and still has a year left on his contract, even though he just turned 34.

The Bulls went 39-43 last season, and a similar record in 2024-25 would certainly jeopardize their pick. Whether they succeed in dealing their two most high-profile players may depend on the asking price they set.
