REPORT: Lions WR Jameson Williams is suspended for two games

According to a report from ESPN, Detroit Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams is facing a two-game suspension for violating the league’s performance-enhancing substance (PES) policy.

Under the NFL PES policy, a player will be subject to a two-game suspension if he has a positive test result for a “stimulant, diuretic or masking agent.”

It is the second time in as many years that Williams has been suspended. Last year, the young receiver was initially suspended six games for violating the league’s gambling policy. Later it was reduced to four games.

It’s a blow to Detroit’s aggressive offense and another setback for Williams’ career. Not only did he miss four games last year due to a suspension, but he also missed almost his entire rookie season as he rehabilitated a torn ACL suffered in the national championship game before the Lions drafted him 12th overall in 2022.

Williams finally hit his stride in Year 3 of his Lions career. Through six games, he has 17 catches for 361 yards and three touchdowns. In the previous two years combined, he had just 25 catches for 395 yards and three touchdowns.

Now his third year breakthrough will have to be put on hold for the next two weeks. Assuming the suspension remains in effect, he will miss this week’s game against the Tennessee Titans and next week’s NFC North showdown with the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field.

Williams offered the following statement to ESPN’s Eric Woodyard.

“There is no choice but to take it on the chin. I am in good spirits and ready to return to my brothers as soon as possible.

The suspension has not yet been announced by the NFL and the Lions have not yet commented on the situation.
