An Italian football transfer insider has revealed that Juventus are a major stumbling block in the pursuit of Jadon Sancho.

Juventus are reportedly considering loaning Sancho, with the obligation to buy him for £40million at the end of the season.

Earlier this month, ESPN reported that Juventus are “convinced” that Sancho wants to join them and that they are also willing to loan Federico Chiesa in return.

The 24-year-old was not in Manchester United’s opening squad for the 1-0 win over Fulham, despite Erik ten Hag drawing a line under the Manchester United row, which saw him banned and loaned to Borussia Dortmund last season.

Ten Hag bluntly stated that players have to ‘deal with it’ if they are left out of the squad. Sancho made his return to a United shirt during pre-season, but questions remain over his future.

Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio claims that Sancho’s salary, reported to be around £15million per season, is a problem for Juventus.

Juventus are facing significant financial challenges, reporting a net loss of around £80m in the first half of the 2023-24 fiscal year, with a cumulative loss over six and a half years of £672m.

Cristiano Ronaldo took legal action against them last September over unpaid wages during the Covid-19 pandemic, and in April they reportedly had to pay him £8.3 million, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

In this context, adding £15 million to the wage bill is an unattractive proposition.

Manchester United paid £100,000-a-week during Sancho’s loan to Borussia Dortmund, as his total salary was well above the German club’s normal ceiling.

Juventus could offer an attractive pitch in terms of football, as they are back in the Champions League and finished third in Serie A last season.

The Bianconeri have a new face in the dugout: 41-year-old Thiago Motta led Bologna to the Champions League last season, ending a 65-year wait for top-flight European football.

Reports suggest they could face competition from Barcelona for Sancho as the LaLiga giants keep tabs on him. However, they want United to pay his full salary for the duration of the loan, according to SPORT.

About his relationship with Sancho, Ten Hag told AD: ‘We had a good talk. Everyone can make a mistake. If the player thinks positively about it, then draw a line and move on.

“This club needs good players, and one thing is for sure: Jadon Sancho is a terribly good player. I hope that the connection will come, and that it will contribute to our success.”
