RFK Jr. and Tulsi Gabbard to campaign in 2nd District for Trump after Walz visit to Harris • Nebraska Examiner

OMAHA – Nebraska’s 2nd District is getting a Trumpy response to the second campaign visit Saturday by Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz on behalf of Vice President Kamala Harris.

Former President Donald Trump’s campaign is sending two former Democrats to Omaha with a history of controversial statements: Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Tulsi Gabbard.

Both will speak Saturday at 6 p.m. as part of Trump’s “Reclaim America Tour,” a campaign effort that targets two of Trump’s more prominent surrogates at undecided women and unaffiliated voters, a Trump campaign official confirmed.

The event will be held at the Hilton Omaha downtown. The doors open at 4:00 PM. The event will be moderated by Leo Terrell, a civil rights attorney.

Kennedy is ostensibly still running for president as a third-party candidate. He suspended much of his campaign in August and announced his support for Trump.

His campaign has withdrawn his name from the ballot in states where his presence could hurt Trump, including Nebraska, election officials confirmed. He stayed in states where he could help or where it was too late to withdraw.

Kennedy, an environmental attorney, advocates eating healthier, less processed foods. For years, he has amplified criticism of the safety and effectiveness of vaccines.

Gabbard, a former congresswoman from Hawaii who served in the Hawaii National Guard, is known for her military service in the Middle East and her opposing positions on national defense.

She has criticized US efforts to arm Ukraine against Russian invasion as provocative. She has questioned US efforts against some of Russia’s allies, including Syria.

She ran for president in 2020 as a Democrat and sparred with Trump’s opponent, then-U.S. Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif., in the presidential primary that President Joe Biden won.

Both are outspoken supporters of Trump getting a second term, with Kennedy often claiming he is willing to take on the entrenched bureaucracy and intelligence agencies.

Gabbard often expresses support for Trump’s position at these events that the United States is safer when the nation leads from a position of perceived strength.

Critics of the two surrogates have said in previous stops that both Kennedy and Gabbard have been rejected by voters and do not represent a real constituency among nonpartisans and people who are still deciding how to vote.

Jane Kleeb, chair of the Nebraska Democratic Party, said Nebraskans are “tired of Trump’s darkness and division.” She said that RFK Jr. and Gabbard “fall far outside the mainstream and are yet another reminder of the extreme agenda that Trump represents.”

“Governor Tim Walz will present a very different vision Saturday: He and Vice President Harris are focused on bringing our country together, protecting reproductive freedom and ensuring that every Nebraskan has the opportunity to not only make ends meet, but to move forward.” Kleeb said.
