Richard Gere gives middle finger on ‘Today’ show; host responds

“Oh, sorry, but I did that in the play,” Gere said.

Oops, it looks like a bird flew out Wednesday morning during an interview with actor Richard Gere on NBC’s “Today” show.

The day after legendary singer and pop icon Cher dropped a swear word during a conversation with host Hoda Kotb, Gere gave the middle finger to “Today” host Savannah Guthrie.

“You just made an obscene gesture on this family morning show,” Guthrie exclaimed after Gere gave her the bird on live television, just minutes into their interview.

But the actor didn’t eliminate Guthrie out of malice, but rather demonstrated what his character did in a scene of his new TV show.

“You know Cher was out here making an F-bomb yesterday, so I don’t know what’s going on,” Guthrie joked.

What happened?

The show played a clip of Gere’s role in “The Agency,” a political thriller. As soon as the clip stops playing, Gere raises his middle finger and Guthrie tries to cover it with the papers she is holding in her hand.

“Oh, sorry, but I did that in the play,” Gere said.

Gere only demonstrated what his character did in the clip, which was cut right before he took out another character.

“Without that, it didn’t make any sense,” Gere said.

What happened to Cher?

On the “Today” show Tuesday morning, Cher opened up about what happened when her marriage to her late ex-husband, Sonny Bono, ended.

According to Cher, he took all the money the musical duo earned together.

“He left me with a car and clothes,” the pop icon said

After explaining what happened, Kotb asked Cher about the advice Hollywood legend Lucille Ball gave her, but Cher warned that it shouldn’t be said on live TV.

“We’ll make it beep,” Kotb said.

Cher then explained that Ball was the only person who came to mind who had dealt with a similar situation, and told her she wanted her advice.

“And she said, ‘F— him, you’re the one with the talent,'” Cher said as she told the story.

Kotb laughed and seemed shocked after the singer dropped the F-bomb.

“Well, you said I could!” Cher said, smiling.
