Rick George sends a strong message about Deion Sanders’ future in Colorado football

CU AD Rick George made it abundantly clear that Deion Sanders will not be leaving the Colorado football program anytime soon. In fact, George said on the Nov. 17 edition of the “Zero 2 Sixty Podcast” that Coach Prime is “just getting started” in Boulder.

“I think there’s a lot of people who, you know, want to say he’s just going to jump into Boulder and be out of here. Deion isn’t going anywhere. The man is dedicated here. He’s just getting started, and I feel really good about our relationship and his love for Boulder and our tradition here, and the community has embraced him,” said George (h/t Pro football network).

“I mean, he doesn’t want to be distracted by talking about a contract during the season, but certainly after the season we will talk about the future. So let people say what they want to say. The only two who know the truth are Deion and I, who are having these conversations, and we will keep moving our feet, and we will always do what is best for CU.

George shared essentially the same sentiment in October before the Buffs’ current win streak.

“We hope Coach Prime ends his career here… he and I are on the same page… it’s not a short-term solution… I love the culture he’s created,” said George (h/ t Scott Procter of the Coloradoan).

George isn’t going to say anything else, but he certainly puts himself out there with such definitive statements.

Buffs fans won’t be happy if it turns out he was just blowing smoke by saying this. But they can never really be mad at the AD who gave “Prime Time” the power to open a store in Boulder with a virtually clean slate.
