Ricky Pearsall shooting: Exclusive video shows moment armed suspect flees scene of crime in San Francisco’s Union Square

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) — Exclusive video shows the moments after 49ers first-round pick Ricky Pearsall was gunned down in San Francisco’s Union Square and the 17-year-old suspect was arrested.

The video, obtained by ABC7 news anchor Dion Lim, shows a group of people running in panic down Geary Street at 3:33 p.m. Saturday.

Fifteen seconds after the group runs past, surveillance shows a figure dressed in black also running. He drops a gun, identified by officers as an unregistered Glock, and holds it in his left arm. He runs across the street, where he encounters SFPD.

According to the police report obtained by Lim, an officer noticed the young man’s arm was bleeding. He then asked, “Who shot you? Do you know who did this? What’s your name?” The young man did not respond. He was then arrested.

Just around the corner on Grant, police were attending to Pearsall, who had been shot in the chest.

A woman who asked to be called ‘Shan’, who was on holiday from Manchester, England, said she and her boyfriend were just metres away from Pearsall when he was shot.

“We were walking out of Macy’s and we both saw the guy next to us because he had two big shopping bags. One was a Rimowa, the other was a big orange Louis Vuitton bag,” Shan said via FaceTime on the way to the airport to fly back to England.

According to the police report, Pearsall said the suspect told him, “Give me everything you’ve got!”

Documents show Pearsall was wearing a $30,000 white gold chain and a $9,000 Rolex around his wrist. He wore them during an autograph session earlier in the day.

San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins announced that the 17-year-old suspect in the shooting death of 49ers rookie Ricky Pearsall has been charged with attempted murder.

Shan says what happened next was chaotic.

“We were a few meters ahead of him and heard a commotion. When we turned around, I saw a young boy dressed all in black trying to grab his bags,” she said.

Shan said she then saw the suspect pull out the gun and a struggle ensued over Pearsall’s bags and the weapon.

“He didn’t give up without a fight. He’s brave,” Shan said.
