The first officer on the scene was Sgt. Joelle Harrell. She is being described as a hero who may have saved Pearsall’s life.

“I want to especially thank Joelle Harrell. I met Joelle. I met her husband Frank, who happened to be the head of everything at the hospital at San Francisco General. But his wife was the first on the scene. And I think we all saw the measures that she took to make Ricky comfortable and, and she was, she was there for him during a really difficult time. And I know how grateful Ricky is for that. We’re grateful to the entire police department. They were just amazing,” Lynch said.

Doctors familiar with injuries similar to those suffered by 49ers wide receiver Ricky Pearsall say he is incredibly lucky to have been released from the hospital a day after being shot in the chest.

Chief William Scott said the suspect was arrested immediately after the shooting. Initial investigation indicated he acted alone “as far as we know,” Scott said, adding that police would continue to search the area’s many surveillance cameras as the investigation continues.

Scott said there was “no indication” the suspect targeted Pearsall because he was a professional football player, adding that only one gun was involved and multiple shots were fired.
