Rising front bringing strong to heavy winds; fire hazard

MISSOULA — A cold front approaching from the Pacific Ocean is bringing strong wind gusts today.

Before the front, take precautions by bringing outdoor items such as trash cans or Halloween decorations. Do not park under damaged trees this afternoon and pay attention to the conditions tonight when it comes to sports.

These precautions will help immensely against sustained wind gusts expected to be between 30 and 100 km per hour in the valleys, and up to 130 km per hour at high altitudes. Damaged trees and power outages are our main potential impacts.

The winds are calm this morning and should be calm again tomorrow morning, but this afternoon will be incredibly gusty. Therefore, the high wind warning remains in effect until 3 a.m. on Saturday morning.

Rain showers and cooler temperatures are at the base of the cold front. Any moisture will be mostly gone by tomorrow morning, with Saturday temperatures rising into the upper 50s and low 60s.

Temperatures will rise from Sunday, with sunshine and high pressure the dominant weather features.
