Russia fines Google $20 decillion – more than the world’s gross domestic product

It is a case, according to the judge, with “many, many zeros”, which can be described as an understatement.

A Russian court has fined Google $20 decillion (£15.4 decillion), which is a 20 with 33 zeros and a number greater than the combined wealth of the world, the grains of sand on Earth or the stars in the sky .

The punishment is the culmination of a four-year court battle that began when Google-owned YouTube banned ultra-nationalist Russian channel Tsargrad due to US sanctions in 2020.

Since Russia invaded Ukraine, YouTube has removed hundreds of channels linked to state broadcasters, some of which are suing Google.

The court imposed a fine of 100,000 rubles ($1,025) per day, which doubles every week and reaches an eye-watering number of two.
