Rutgers loses another defensive veteran for the season

Rutgers has lost another experienced defenseman for the rest of the season.

Defensive player Wesley Bailey will not play again this season, according to a report from ESPN’s Pete Thamel on Saturday morning.

Bailey has played just four games so far this season, collecting nine tackles, nine pressures (one sack, two quarterback hits, six quarterback hurries) and a pass defended in 150 snaps, according to ProFootballFocus. That means he earns a redshirt this season and will have another year of eligibility after this fall.

It is unclear whether he plans to use Piscataway.

Bailey becomes the sixth major Rutgers contributor to miss the remainder of the season, following linebacker Mohamed Toure, left guard Bryan Felter, running back Samuel Brown V and tight ends Kenny Fletcher and Victor Konpoka.

Bailey ends his tenure as a Scarlet Knight with 69 tackles, 9.5 sacks and seven passes defended in 1,351 snaps in 36 games. He led Rutgers in sacks during the 2022 season (3.5).
