    Sabrina Carpenter Kisses an Alien at the 2024 MTV VMAs: Watch

    The summer of Sabrina Carpenter was felt all over the place! On Wednesday, the Short and sweet pop star took the stage at the 2024 VMAs for a sexy, space-themed medley of her hits “Espresso,” “Please Please Please” and “Taste.”

    Carpenter began her performance with “Please Please Please” while hanging from a swing next to a giant Moon Person in the sky. (She was muffled when she sang the “motherfucker” line in the chorus.)

    Carpenter quickly flew to the main stage for a space-themed set as she serenaded an astronaut and a blue alien with “Taste,” shocking the audience by sharing an extended kiss with the alien. Carpenter ended her performance surrounded by dozens of astronauts to sing her hit “Espresso.”

    Cyndi Lauper, who won a Moon Person at the first VMAs, hosted Carpenter’s performance, which celebrated the success of her album. “Get ready to hear the whole place go ‘motherfucka,'” Lauper said. “Can we?”

    Carpenter is up for seven awards this year, including Song of the Year, Best Editing for “Espresso” and Song of the Summer, Best Art Direction and Best Direction for “Please Please Please.” She’s also nominated for Best Pop and Artist of the Year, where she’s up against Ariana Grande, Bad Bunny, Eminem, SZA and Taylor Swift.

    This is Carpenter’s first time on the VMA main stage. Last year she performed Emails I can’t send favorites “Feather” and “Nonsense” during the VMAs pre-show.

    Carpenter has had a great year leading up to last month Short and sweetwhich reached number one on the Advertising board 200In April, her breakthrough single “Espresso” became one of the biggest songs of the year, followed by “Please Please Please,” which became her first number one on the Hot 100. Along with the album, Carpenter released a silly video with Jenna Ortega for album opener “Taste.”

    Carpenter, Camila Cabello, Anitta, Benson Boone, Halsey, Chappell Roan, Karol G, Rauw Alejandro and Shawn Mendes were among the artists who took the stage at this year’s VMAs.

    Taylor Swift topped the nominations list this year with 10 nominations. Post Malone received nine nominations, Ariana Grande received six, as did Eminem and first-time VMA nominee Carpenter.

    The 2024 Video Music Awards will be broadcast live on MTV from UBS Arena on Long Island.
