Saquon Barkley’s career day propels Philadelphia Eagles to seventh straight win

Since Saquon Barkley joined the Philadelphia Eagles prior to this season after his stint with the New York Giants, things couldn’t have gotten off to a better start.

The former Penn State star running back was sensational for his new team, and that was punctuated by his career day on Sunday Night Football, when he rushed for 255 yards and two touchdowns, while also totaling 302 yards.

He set the Eagles’ franchise record for most rushing yards in a game and the ninth-highest single-game total in NFL history.

Barkley has already surpassed his previous career high for rushing yards in a season, with six games remaining.

Penn State fans have long known how good a player he is, but after a tough time with the Giants that was marred by injuries and hampered by poor offensive line play, he can finally showcase his talent on the national stage again.

Barkley has a real shot at reaching the coveted 2,000-yard mark this season, something only eight other running backs in NFL history have ever accomplished. The last to do so was future Hall of Famer Adrian Peterson in 2012, who finished with 2,097 yards, the second most of all time.

Peterson also happened to win MVP that year, the last time a non-quarterback won the award.

Barkley has given himself a real chance to make history by doing so this year if he can reach that plateau, and based on the way he’s performing, there’s a good chance he can do that if he stays healthy.

Philadelphia has now won seven straight games, and the former Nittany Lions standout is a big reason why he continues to put up eye-popping numbers that could make his season one of the best in the history of the sport.
