Saquon’s Leapfrog and DeVonta’s Toe Drag

PHILADELPHIA – On paper, things didn’t look good. In practice, it was even worse for the Jacksonville Jaguars.

That is until Jacksonville staged a roaring comeback and was on the brink of an improbable victory before Trevor Lawrence’s game-clinching interception was thrown to Nakobe Dean with less than two minutes remaining to secure a 28-23 Eagles win.

The Eagles built a 22-0 lead in the third quarter and had built a 265-36 yard lead and held the Jaguars to one first down with 9:25 remaining in the third quarter.

THE BULLS

SAQUON – Saquon Barkley did it in both phases, but the highlight was a reverse leapfrog that hadn’t been seen since Jimmy Snuka headlined for the WWF in the early 1980s.

Barkley scored through the air and abused safety Darnell Savage on a wheel route, and on the ground when Jalen Hurts caught Jacksonville sleeping on a red and 17 and Barkley used a Cam Jurgens block that opened up a play almost as was big as South Philadelphia as Barkley drove untouched into the right side of the end zone.

SMITTY – When the Eagles needed it and the second half turned into the Yankees’ fifth inning, DeVonta Smith delivered a shot from 46 yards deep to set up a 25-yard touchdown reception on a third-and-22 play . where it was the trademark Smitty toe-drag swag.

Both balls were also thrown perfectly by Jalen Hurts, but it was Smith’s ability to put the big play in the passing attack without AJ Brown, who left with a knee injury, that saved the Eagles’ bacon.

NAKPBE DEAN – The linebacker has been much maligned when it comes to his coverage skills, so Doug Pederson put the play in the hands of Lawrence and Travis Etienne late in the game in the form of a wheel route.

The ball was knocked over, too far in and Etienne did not follow the ball. Even with everything Dean was taking in, Dean was able to intercept the play as if he were the offensive player Lawrence had in mind.

THE BEARS

COACH’S DECISION-MAKING – In the minds of fans, Nick Sirianni left a lot of points on the board by being too aggressive, and Jacksonville was somehow still in the game when Jake Elliott missed from 57 with just over two minutes to go.

Injuries – The Eagles lost AJ Brown suffered a knee injury late in the first half and came off for the second bot was unable to continue with a knee injury, while Ben VanSumeren lost to concussion after starting the game at fullback.
