Save up to 30% on subscriptions this weekend with Black Friday PS Plus deals

Sony announced its official selection of Black Friday deals this week, but I’m most excited about those PS Plus discounts. While the savings will see up to 25% off controllers, up to 40% off the PSVR 2 system, and additional discounts on the Pulse headset series, we’ve been getting some PlayStation Plus deals long overdue.

I’ve been waiting for the Black Friday PS5 deals to kick off in full to upgrade my membership, and it looks like there’s only a few days left. We already know that the biggest discounts will be reserved for new members, but you would think that our loyal customers would get some kind of savings on top of that. Right? Right? Sony’s sale starts on Friday, November 22 and runs simultaneously at the PS Direct store and a number of third-party retailers.

However, for these PS Plus deals you’ll need to head straight to PS Direct. Sony hasn’t sold its subscriptions directly through retailers since moving to a tiered system, which has put a real damper on the kind of savings we used to see. The brand’s Black Friday marketing is generally vague, with savings reaching ‘up to 30% off’, but no mention of what level this top discount applies to. There’s also the added problem of different payment levels.

I’ve been following Black Friday for five years now and in my experience, these types of subscription savings rarely apply to the cheaper monthly subscriptions. Instead, I expect we’ll be looking at 30% off the most expensive 12-month payment options, with lower discounts happening further up the chain. It’s highly unlikely that every tier will get a 30% discount on every payment plan, but I’ve done the math for the following best-case scenario breakdown for each plan.

That’s a potentially solid savings wherever that 30% goes, but I expect this discount to be applied to annual memberships, with a smaller price reduction for three-month options. Whichever membership you choose, there’s a way to save even more. Amazon previously offered 10% off its stock of PlayStation Store gift cards – a deal that has since been taken off the shelves, but will likely return when Black Friday gaming deals officially start next week. It’s definitely worth taking a look here once all the cards are on the table. It’s an excellent way to double your savings.

Today’s best early Black Friday PS5 deals

Sony isn’t giving us the exact numbers on its hardware deals either, but a 25% discount on DualSense controllers means they’ll cost $56.24. That’s still not exactly cheap, as I’ve seen the same gamepads drop to as low as $49.99 during previous Black Friday sales, so the recent price increase isn’t exactly covered by this year’s discounts. Meanwhile, the PSVR 2 system will drop to a new low when the 40% discount takes effect. With a suggested retail price of $549.99, we’ll see the brand’s VR headset drop to just $329.99 this Black Friday. That’s better than the all-time high of $449 we saw during the brand’s Days of Play sale over the summer.
