SB Nation Reacts to Results: Is Bills Mafia Losing Confidence in Buffalo?

The Buffalo Bills are putting together a very successful 2024 NFL season, much to the delight of fans and the surprise of almost everyone tuned into professional football. That may sound strange considering that quarterback Josh Allen is still very much the focus of One Bills Drive, but many people have written off this season due to so much roster turnover that has taken away a lot of veteran leadership.

If Bills Mafia needed a reminder, here it is: Josh Allen is still going to do Josh Allen stuff, and we’re all lucky enough to witness that as fans. Go ahead and subtract the best safety tandem in the NFL, partly with Allen’s long-standing top two wide receivers (even if WR1 had a Hall of Fame-worthy career with him) – it won’t stop QB17. Allen thrives on adversity, and his passion and dedication are as genuine as the core of Bill’s Mafia. If you’re in Bills Country, you’re bound to find a home at the intersection of Allen and Hurdle.

What else? Well, the Bills are 8-2, currently nestled as the two seed behind the undefeated Chiefs – with a chance to dent their armor in Week 11. Plus, Buffalo has a commanding lead in the AFC East and appears to be quickly on its way to claiming what would be a franchise record fifth consecutive AFC East title.

In recent weeks, the results of our Reacts research have proven very favorable. That’s to be expected when fans are constantly celebrating wins. Right? Well, the Bills haven’t made it all that easy to win in recent weeks, dropping a few games to AFC playoff hopefuls. Still, Buffalo weathered that storm and is currently on a five-game winning streak. Life really is good in Bills Country. But is it great?

It was last week, prior to Buffalo’s road game against the Indianapolis Colts. They won that game decisively too, although it wasn’t necessarily pretty in attack, nor everywhere in defense.

After hitting a season high of 96% of voters feeling confident about the direction of the bills, we’ve seen a slow march from 89% in week 10 to now just 78% of fans feeling confident ahead of the Buffalo game in week 11.

I’m not at all confident we have clean data this week, mainly due to the healthy influx of Chiefs fans on our site. It’s possible that a fair number of votes came in from outside the fanbase. But it’s also possible that fans don’t want to get too excited yet. I had a lot of concerns after last week’s win. Statistics only take you so far, and sometimes that journey doesn’t involve an all-important eye test.

If you’re not on board yet, or have fallen off the wagon, what will it take to regain faith in head coach Sean McDermott and this year’s Buffalo Bills? Whatever is behind this week’s results, I believe it’s safe to say that our confidence assessment will look very different next week, win or lose.

FanDuel Sportsbook shared with us data on who in Bills vs. Chiefs will perform for Week 11. Perhaps boosted by a favorable point total throughout the season, 60% of the incoming money will go to Buffalo, covering -1.5. Do you agree?

NFL fans were asked to rank the top 10 teams. The Bills deservedly made the list. But where did they end up? How does fourth place sound, behind the Baltimore Ravens (3rd), Kansas City Chiefs (2nd) and Detroit Lions (1st)?
