International music superstar and NBC television host Kelly Clarkson surprised 25 New Jersey high school students during this afternoon’s television broadcast of “The Kelly Clarkson Show.” Clarkson announced that the winner of this year’s NBC 4 New York/Telemundo 47 “Star Choir” is the Neptune High School winner Scarlet Sound A Cappella Choirfrom Neptune Township in Monmouth County. Entries for the 2024 “Star Choir” competition were accepted for youth singing groups residing in the New York City DMA, consisting of New York, New Jersey, Fairfield County, Connecticut and Pike County, Pennsylvania. Entries were accepted between September 18 and October 13. Previous Star Choir winners include PS 103 in The Bronx (2021), PS14 in Corona, Queens (2022) and High Tech High School of the Hudson County Schools of Technology (2023).

“This is a unique opportunity for an incredibly valuable group of student artists. They have worked so hard to get to this moment and have made their community proud. Led by Neptune High School’s choir director Erin Radvanski Scarlet Sounds mission is to achieve the highest level of musicianship and performance experience while being an integral part of their beloved Neptune community. In support of the choir’s national performance, Neptune High School will receive a $5,000 donation from Balsam Hill, sponsor of the Kelly Clarkson Show, and an additional $5,000 from NBC 4 New York and Telemundo 47.

The musical ensemble was accepted as a participant in the International Competition of High School A Cappella eight years in a row and reached the semi-finals four times. Scarlet sound has also been nominated seven times for the New Jersey State Teen Arts Festival, each time receiving a “Distinguished” rating. They were also one of the featured performers at the NATO Parade of Nations, have been chosen twice to perform at Disney World and have also performed with Grammy-nominated American jazz pianist and composer David Benoit.
