Amazon’s Black Friday sale event starts on Friday, November 22nd and ends on Friday, November 29th. This is Amazon’s longest Black Friday sale yet.

The first phase of the deals will be from November. 22-28, and from Nov. 29, expect exclusive offers.

During the main Black Friday event, you can browse deals from a wide range of categories, including major TV brands, smart home devices, fashion, beauty and wellness, furniture, pet supplies, tools, fitness equipment and more.

How to work the deals – be quick!

Black Friday deals can expire in minutes, and some deals end when supplies run out. During the Black Friday event there are promotions called Spotlight Deals, Gold Box Deals of the Day and Lightning Deals. I rank these in order of urgency.

The Lightning Deals almost always offer the best prices and are valid for a short period of time or if they are sold out, sometimes even for a few minutes. Even though it looks like no deal has been made, below is a tip that can help you secure the deal in an easy way.

• Create a wish list on Amazon. Include everything you regularly buy throughout the year, such as dog food, lamps and basic items. Add upcoming birthdays and expensive items you haven’t purchased yet, and get your holiday gift list ready well in advance while saving big time.
• “Join the waitlist” for sold out products you want and missed. Do you think it’s sold out? Maybe not. Items in another customer’s cart will expire if not purchased within 15 minutes. If you are on a waiting list, you may receive a notification that the deal is yours.
• Download the Amazon app for smartphones or tablets to see offers first. The app shows deals first and allows you to create a ‘View this deal’ list so you’re notified when a deal goes live.
• Say: “Alexa, what are your deals?” for exclusive offers. You can cycle through this audio form of deals by saying “Alexa, next” as they are described to move on to the next deal. Voice shopping is a hassle, and Amazon knows it. That’s why it’s tempting to try it with even better deals than what you can find on the site.
• Compare prices at other retailers such as BestBuy, Walmart, Kohls and Target, as so many other sources are capitalizing on the Black Friday excitement.

Beware of these losing Black Friday mishaps

• Prevent Unknown brands that can often disappoint
• Prevent Fake reviews by using fakespot.com. Instead of adding the browser extension, all you have to do is link to the search field to copy and paste an Amazon product listing. Fakespot analyzes the results to show a letter grade and explanation. The goal is to remove fake reviews and identify troubled listings.
• Prevent overpay by checking the lowest price history at CamelCamelCamel. Here, a price history is kept for almost every Amazon item to show whether you are really getting the lowest price.
• Prevent the Amazon Assistant browser plugin due to privacy concerns. While Amazon’s browser plugin can make comparing items and tracking deals easy, it also comes at the cost of your personal privacy because it can track your web browser activity.
