Sebastian Stan canceled Variety’s ‘Actors on Actors’ because stars were afraid to talk about Donald Trump

Sebastian Stanwho plays Donald Trump in the biographical film The Apprentice, appeared with director Ali Abbasi at a screening of the film. He revealed that he was asked to appear on Variety’s Actors on Actors, but couldn’t find anyone to work with because they were “too scared” to talk about the film.

Sebastian Stan says others were ‘too scared’ to talk about Donald Trump on Variety’s Actors on Actors

Sebastian Stan revealed he “couldn’t get past the publicists” to ask actors to work with him for an episode of Variety’s Actors on Actors after The Apprentice. “I had an offer to do Variety’s Actors on Actors next Friday, and I couldn’t find another actor to do it with me because they were too scared to start talking about this movie. So I couldn’t do it,” he said.

The MCU actor underlined that he “didn’t want to point the finger at anyone,” before adding, “It was… we couldn’t get past the publicists or the people who represented them because (they) were too scared to talk. this movie.”

According to Stan, this is the moment when the ‘situation’ is lost. “Because if it really becomes like that – fear or that discomfort of talking about this – then we really have a problem,” he explained.

Quoting a New York Times op-ed by Carlos Lozada, Stan argued, “We need to stop pretending Trump isn’t one of us. You know, and that’s really hard to deal with right now. And I understand that emotions are very high.”

The Golden Globe nominee continued, “But I think that’s the only way you can understand this movie. All it says is that you can’t keep pushing this person aside, especially after he’s been voted out by the people. Shouldn’t we take a closer look at this and try to understand what it is about this person who is even running that?”

Stan’s comment comes after actress Rachel Zegler publicly apologized for a comment she made about Trump’s re-election as US president. Notably, The Apprentice premiered in Cannes this year before debuting in the US on October 11, 2024.
