See how your WCSD ranks

As more than a hundred schools in Washoe County approach the middle of the school year, here’s a look at each school’s ranking during the 2023-2024 school year by the Nevada Department of Education.

The overview comes amid upcoming reviews that will contribute to this year’s rankings. It also comes just months after lawmakers will decide education funding for the Silver State during the 2025 legislative session. The list includes district-sponsored charter schools.

Annually, the Nevada Department of Education ranks schools in the Silver State using a star system. The rankings are released each fall with data from the previous school year.

Schools are given a rating of one to five stars, which reflect academic performance, readiness to study and graduation rate. Points between one and 100 are earned for various measures.

Five highlights from each WCSD school’s rankings

  • Statewide, 20 schools saw jumps of more than two stars from the previous year. In Washoe County, Diedrichsen Elementary School was the only school to make the two-star jump, from a one-star school in 2022-2023 to a three-star school in 2023-2024.
  • Fifteen WCSD schools received five stars, an increase of 5.5 percentage points from the previous year.
  • Of the five-star schools, only Mount Rose K-8 received a five-star ranking for its high school, with a ranking of 98.8 out of 100. No other high school in the district received four stars. Nine high schools received a three-star rating, followed by 14 schools that received a one- or two-star rating.
  • Hug High School was the only traditional high school in the district to receive a one-star rating. The school received 26.5 out of 100 points. A decline for Hug, who received 35.5 out of 100 points the year before. In 2022, the district opened the new Hug High. The school received 47 out of 100 in the 2018-2019 school year. The state halted its rankings during the pandemic.
  • Five primary schools received a five-star ranking. Twenty-four district elementary schools received a one-star rating.
