  • The north of the country will be a hotspot for heavy storms until the end of the week.

Severe to very severe thunderstorms will continue to affect parts of the northern portion through the end of the week, bringing damaging wind gusts, large hail and an isolated chance of tornadoes.

The radar below shows that there are currently showers and storms in the Midwest and East. It also shows any warnings from the National Weather Service.

Tuesday’s storms caused wind damage across the Great Lakes, including parts of Michigan, northern Illinois, northern Ohio and Wisconsin. Hail the size of tennis balls was reported northwest of Chicago.

Wednesday-Wednesday evening

  • Parts of the Mid-Atlantic, Northeast and Ohio Valley could see a few severe storms today ahead of a cold front. Baltimore, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh are among the major metropolitan areas in this threat zone.
  • Damaging wind gusts and large hail appear to be the main threats, with some areas experiencing this threat into the evening and night.
  • Another weather system could bring some severe storms to the Northern Plains.

Thursday-Friday

  • The second weather system will reach the northwestern Midwest on Thursday, bringing severe weather into the afternoon and evening.
  • Several severe storms could also develop in North Carolina and Virginia.
  • Wind damage and hail remain the biggest threats in all of those areas. An isolated tornado cannot be ruled out in the upper Midwest.
  • The chance for isolated severe storms shifts to the Great Lakes on Friday.
