A severe thunderstorm warning is now in effect for 29 counties in western and central Lower Michigan.

A line of thunderstorms is intensifying as it moves into the western edge of Lower Michigan. This line of storms will have individual storm cells strengthening above severe levels, producing scattered winds of 70 mph, hailstones of 1.5 inches in diameter, and possibly even a tornado or two.

The warning for severe thunderstorms runs until 8 p.m.

The primary threats are scattered damaging winds up to 70 mph likely, isolated large hail up to 1.5 inches in diameter possible, and a tornado or two possible. Multiple lines of storms are expected to spread east-southeastward across western/inland Lower Michigan this afternoon through early evening, with damaging winds and some hail possible.
