The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Storm Prediction Center has issued a severe thunderstorm watch until 9 p.m. for most of Minnesota, including the Twin Cities.

Severe storms are most likely in the Twin Cities between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m.

235 PM CDT Thu Aug 29 2024 The NWS Storm Prediction Center has issued a *severe thunderstorm warning for parts of northwest Iowa Minnesota Western and northwest Wisconsin Lake Superior

*Valid this Thursday afternoon and evening from 11:50pm to 9:00pm CDT.

* Major threats include… Scattered damaging winds up to 70 mph (113 km/h) likely Scattered large hail and isolated very large hail up to 2 inches (5 cm) in diameter possible A tornado or two possible

SUMMARY… Storms will continue to strengthen and move east-northeastward across the region during the late afternoon and early evening. Damaging winds and isolated large hail are expected to be the most common hazards, although some tornado threats are possible near a warm front. The severe thunderstorm warning area is approximately along and 65 miles east and west of a line from 45 miles northwest of Ely MN to 35 miles southwest of Fairmont MN.
