Severe weather threats return Wednesday evening; Tornado Watch Issues for Central Oklahoma

Severe weather threats return to Green Country on Wednesday.

A line of strong to severe storms is expected to form across western to north-central Oklahoma by late afternoon along a cold front, pushing southeast overnight with severe weather into early Thursday morning.

A Tornado Watch has been issued for much of central Oklahoma until 9 p.m

Included provinces are

  1. Lucerne
  2. Blaine,
  3. Caddo,
  4. Canadian,
  5. Custer,
  6. Dewey,
  7. Garfield,
  8. Kay,
  9. Kingfisher,
  10. Logan,
  11. Important,
  12. Noble,
  13. Oklahoma,
  14. Payne,
  15. Wasita,
  16. Bunch
  17. Woodward

Here is a general timeline for the top severe threats according to Chief Meteorologist Travis Meyer:

  1. Northwest of Tulsa: 7:00 PM – 10:00 PM
  2. Tulsa Metro & I-44 corridor: 10:00 PM – 12:00 PM
  3. Southeast of Tulsa: 12:00 PM – 3:00 AM

Large hail, damaging winds and a few tornadoes are all possible. Tornado risk will be moderate during the first storms into the evening, with a greater emphasis on damaging winds and embedded spin-ups after midnight and into early Thursday.
