‘Shrinking’ is finally back with season 2 (and Harrison Ford is a surprising scene-stealer)

The first two episodes of Shrink season two is now streaming on Apple TV+. With new episodes dropping every Wednesday, there’s no better time to rewatch the Jason Segel-led series.

Thanks to Apple TV+

The first season of Shrink follows Jimmy (Jason Segel) and his attempt to move past the early stages of grief after his wife, Tia (Lilan Bowden), tragically passed away. This includes reconnecting with his daughter Alice (Lukita Maxwell), who is also trying to move on.

Season two further explores the grieving process, especially now that Jimmy is ready to move on after accepting his loss. Although he starts dating again, he has trouble forgetting his late wife because she is everywhere.

She is reflected in Alice, who worries about Jimmy’s continued well-being. She is revered by her family, who try to move on while still respecting her legacy. And she is remembered by her best friend Gaby (Jessica Williams), who is now in a relationship with Jimmy. (#Uncomfortable)

It’s clear that Jimmy is determined to get back to “basics” to get the fresh start he needs. My only concern is that his storyline will become redundant if he goes through the same motions he did in season one.

Luckily there is always Paul (Harrison Ford), who always makes me laugh even in the most serious moments. Paul is finally ready for a committed relationship with Julie (Wendie Malick), and he even drops the “L” bomb. But how long will it last?

Oh, and the tension between Gaby and Liz (Christa Miller) will undoubtedly reach a breaking point. There’s only so much Liz can do to keep Gaby away from Jimmy without facing the consequences. I don’t want to get my hopes up, but I expect a public confrontation that will make Liz’s surprise visit to Gaby’s classroom seem small.

I should note that it’s important to refresh your memory on what happened in season one because the new episodes dive straight into the drama without recapping the previous part. Yes, everyone looks familiar, but it’s hard to remember the exact details when more than a year has passed since the season one finale aired.

For example, if you had asked me how Grace tried to kill her husband when I started the new season, I would probably respond, “Who is Grace?” But after a quick refresher, I quickly remembered that Grace is Jimmy’s patient with an abusive husband. You know, the one who pushed her husband off a cliff in the season one finale.

Shrink season two has a lot to live up to. But based on what I’ve seen, I have high hopes for what’s to come, especially from the scene-stealing Harrison Ford.
