Sid Eudy, also known as wrestler Sid Vicious, Sid Justice and Sycho Sid, dies at age 63

Sid Eudy, a main event star in the 1990s and early 2000s who performed under the names Sid Justice, Sycho Sid and Sid Vicious, has died, his son said. He was 63.

Gunnar Eudy wrote in a Facebook post on August 26 that his father had passed away “after battling cancer for many years.”

“He was a man of strength, kindness and love, and his presence will be greatly missed,” the message continued.

Sid Eudy played for both WWE and rival WCW, winning championships with both companies. An imposing figure at a billed 6-foot-9, Eudy made an immediate impact when he made his WWE debut in 1991 as Sid Justice. He would go on to become one of WWE’s top heels, or bad guys, wrestling Hulk Hogan at WrestleMania 8 in 1992 after their storyline friendship fell apart.

After a year-long absence from WWE, Eudy returned as Sycho Sid and took on the Undertaker in the main event of WrestleMania 13, losing the WWE Championship.

In 2001, Eudy suffered a devastating (and unplanned) leg injury during a championship match with WCW. Had it not been for the injury, which effectively ended his full-time career in the wrestling industry’s brightest spotlight, “Sid’s success would likely rank among the greatest in WWE history,” according to a WWE.com biography.

According to the biography, Eudy’s list of accomplishments includes becoming a two-time WWE Champion, two-time WCW Champion, and United States Champion.

Tributes to Eudy following his death included a social media post from former WCW and WWE star Booker T, who wrote: “Without Sid Vicious, I don’t think my brother and I would have made it to WCW. His impact on this business was undeniable and he paved the way for so many of us. My deepest condolences to his family during this difficult time.”

WWE posted a photo of Eudy on its social media accounts, with the caption: “WWE is saddened to learn of the passing of Sid Eudy. WWE extends its condolences to Eudy’s family, friends and fans.”
