‘SNL’ weekend update mocks Democrats after Donald Trump win

Saturday evening live (SNL) focused on the Democratic Party in her Weekend Update, following Donald Trump’s election victory on Tuesday.

In a decisive political comeback, Trump captured all swing states, won both the popular vote and the White House, defeated Vice President Kamala Harris, while his party retook the Senate and appeared on course to win the House of Representatives.

SNL hosts Colin Jost and Michael Che took aim at Democrats and their inability to win despite Trump’s many setbacks on the campaign trail.

“On Tuesday we learned that Democrats don’t actually know how to rig elections,” Jost opened, referring to Trump’s continued statements that the 2020 election was rigged.

“It’s like we’re living in a computer simulation, and whoever runs Trump has a cheat code. He is invincible. He’s like a character Major theft car who throws a prostitute out of a car and drives straight to the White House. But don’t worry knowing the Democrats, they will take a long look in the mirror, learn from their mistakes, and then lead (Joe) Biden again in 2028.”

Jost then joked about Biden’s advanced age and his much-criticized performance in his debate against Trump in June before ending his re-election bid. “President Biden and President-elect Trump will meet next week in the Oval Office, where Biden will finally finish a sentence he started during the debate,” Jost said.

Trump and Biden will meet on Wednesday to discuss the presidential transition.

An invitation from a sitting president to the president-elect is common during a presidential transition. However, in 2020, Trump, the then-incumbent president, did not recognize or concede Biden’s election victory, saying the election was stolen through widespread fraud. Accordingly, Biden did not receive an invitation to the White House before his inauguration.

Che, who delivered the newscast while sadly drinking booze, joked that he allowed his white liberal colleagues to give him hope for a Harris victory.

“How did I let you convince me that rural Pennsylvania would pick the Jamaican Indian lady?” he said. “Obviously I’ve spent too much time with you white liberals and your idiotic optimism. It wasn’t even close. At one point Trump was so far ahead that they called in Bronny.”

Jost joked that Democrats, like Che, might need to self-medicate to soften the loss.

“Before the election, Trump said he wanted RFK Jr. ‘get away from medicine,’ which is what Democrats have been doing all week,” Jost said, showing an image of a pill bottle of Xanax, an anxiety medication.
