PALM DESERT, Calif. – LeBron James will not play in the Los Angeles Lakers’ preseason debut against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Friday, sources told ESPN. James, 39, is postponed for halftime but is expected to play in LA’s second game at Acrisure Arena against the Phoenix Suns on Sunday.

Lakers coach JJ Redick said James and Anthony Davis — after busy summers traveling the world with Team USA, highlighted by winning the gold medal at the Paris Olympics — would both play this weekend.

James’ son, Lakers rookie Bronny James, was able to attend his first preseason action on Friday, while Redick said he plans to experiment with different lineups during the practice schedule.

“Of course there are nerves,” Bronny said Friday morning after the shooting. “Comes with everything. But I’m just excited to get out there and learn and learn from the people that play for me. And if I get a chance to show my game, I’m going to do it to the best of my ability .” of my abilities.”

Bronny said he is willing to hear feedback from his father from the bench if he participates in the game, just as LeBron would sit courtside during Bronny’s high school, AAU and college games so the pair could have an ongoing dialogue .

“Pretty much the same, but now we’re teammates,” Bronny said. “So it’s going to be deeper conversations about the game and stuff like that. So yeah, I’m ready.”
