Spirit Halloween hits back at ‘SNL’ in season premiere sketch

Spirit Halloween raised its pitchforks on “Saturday Night Live,” where a skit mocking the costume shop aired during Saturday’s season 50 premiere.

America’s largest Halloween retailer reposted a video of the skit on X with the caption: “We’re great at bringing things back from the dead @nbcsnl.” The post also included a photo of a fake costume labeled “Irrelevant 50th Anniversary TV Show,” designed like the garment sold in their stores. The costume was described as containing “dated references,” “unknown cast members” and “shrinking elevations” — three clear comments on “SNL.”

But some die-hard “SNL” fans also crept in to defend the show. One X user commented: “SNL lines. Always has been and always will be,” while another wrote: “The skit was hilarious though.”

The sketch in question featured Heidi Gardner, Chloe Fineman and Michael Longfellow appearing as Spirit Halloween employees in a fake commercial.

Referring to the retailer’s tendency to set up shop in vacant retail spaces, they noted: “We don’t see a dead-end city. We don’t see an abandoned Kmart. We see a ghost, a ghost Halloween.”

Longfellow jokingly added, “Thanks to us, what used to be the condemned Auto Zone where a murder took place is once again a thriving business where a murder took place.”

The group also pokes fun at stereotypes about the costume shop’s seemingly eclectic group of employees, joking that the company hires “some of the worst hit perverts.”

And to end the spicy roast,SNL” joked, “Spirit Halloween. If you need us, we’re here. For six weeks. Because we’re leaving on November 1st. And all this junk goes in the dumpster.”

“Saturday Night Live” airs on NBC on Saturdays at 11:30 PM ET. Representatives for the show did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Check out the full sketch below.
