When Quinn Ewers was taken out of the Georgia match in the first half, Bow Manning intervened and questions immediately arose. Could a quarterback controversy arise in Austin? While Steve Sarkisian Having been clear about where the QB situation stands, he went off his usual script by benching Ewers.

Manning had two drives in the first half before not playing in the second half. Ewers was the man who would watch the match Texas fell 30-15 at home. Next up for Texas is Vanderbilt on the road and No. 3 will still be the guy who starts for the Longhorns moving forward according to Sarkisian.

“Quinn is our starting quarterback,” Sarkisian said in his post-game press conference. “I appreciate the fact that we are fortunate to have a backup like Arch who can come into the game and provide a spark in a way. Ultimately, Quinn is our starter. I think, like I said, we have to do better in his environment. I think he would tell you he can play better, but we need to coach better. Everyone has to be better for our offense to perform better.”

Sarkisian was asked about the decision by the ESPN broadcast at halftime and said at the time that Ewers should settle on the sideline. The same, though with more elaborate thoughts, came from Sarkisian when he spoke after the game. Getting Ewers into the locker room to regroup was the main goal of the move.

“My feeling during the game was that Quinn was a little uncomfortable,” Sarkisian said. “I felt like giving him a chance to take a step back and regroup. I didn’t know if we would get one or two series with Arch depending on how much time was left in half the clock.

“So we told Quinn we’re going to take Arch over here and give you a chance to go into the locker room. Let’s regroup and then come back in the second half, and that’s what we did. I felt like it was effective. Quinn came out and played a much better second half and played well in the third quarter as well.
