Suspect held, reports of ‘victims’ at Georgia high school

At least two people were killed and four injured when gunfire erupted at a suburban Atlanta high school. Wednesday, according to preliminary information from law enforcement officials familiar with the investigation.

One suspect has been arrested, the Barrow County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. Victims have also been reported.

Officers and medical personnel rushed to Apalachee High School around 10:23 a.m. “in reference to a reported active shooter situation,” the statement said.

The school is located approximately 45 miles northeast of downtown Atlanta.

All schools at Barrow County Schools in Winder, Georgia went into a “soft lockdown” with most activities centered around Apalachee HS, where police cars, fire trucks, and ambulances all gathered.

Students were seen being led to the school’s football stadium.

“I have deployed all available state resources to respond to the incident at Apalachee High School and I urge all Georgians to join my family in praying for the safety of those in our classrooms, both in Barrow County and across the state,” Gov. Brian Kemp said in a statement.

Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta confirmed it was treating one shooting victim.
