A man arrested in Manchester on suspicion of stabbing a 43-year-old woman has been jailed under the Mental Health Act.

Alberta Obinim was stabbed to death in a house on Barnard Road in the city’s Gorton area at around 23:20 BST on Sunday.

Two others, a 64-year-old man and a 17-year-old girl, were also injured and were in critical condition.

The 22-year-old suspect has now been placed under the supervision of mental health professionals, Greater Manchester Police said.

According to the police, all those involved were ‘known to each other’.

The injured man remains in critical condition, while the 17-year-old girl is now stable, the hospital said.

Extra patrols are being carried out in the area and an appeal has been made for anyone with information to contact police.
