First quarter

6:29 remaining: Boston College Drive begins at its own 45-yard line

7:49 remaining: Syracuse drive begins at its own 20-yard line

Syracuse goes three-and-out on an incomplete deep ball to Umari Hatcher.

Center Jon’re Reed was flagged for holding to negate a 40-plus yard gain by McCord on a broken play.

Earlier in the drive, McCord had to make his second read on second down, looking for Jackson Meeks diagonally over the middle, but the pass is incomplete.

12:23 remaining: Boston College drive begins at its own 13-yard line

Boston College opens with the ground game and Kye Robichaux bursts through the line for a first down.

Syracuse has a slight rotation on defense, with Kevin Jobity, Denis Jaquez and Dion Wilson out with injuries.

Jordan McDonald, who normally wears No. 25 for the Eagles, wears No. 24 on this day. He rips off a run stretch that covers 41 yards to help set up BC around the 5-yard line.

Quarterback Thomas Castellanos loses his balance and moves BC back to the SU 11-yard line.

On third and goal, Castellanos is too high looking for wide receiver Reed Harris in the back of the end zone.

BC misses the chip shot from 29 yards out, leaving a mess of a kicking situation all season.

3:00 PM remaining; The Syracuse drive begins at its own 25-yard line

Syracuse scripts the quick play on its opening possession, hitting LeQuint Allen with a flareout wide and Justus Ross-Simmons with a slant pattern to move to midfield.

On 3rd and 7, SU gives it to Allen for 1 yard.

SU, which entered the game converting 50% of its third downs (second in ACC), will kick it away.

Foreplay

Update 11:40 am: Syracuse kick returner Malachi James is not dressed for Saturday’s game.

Syracuse will look to stay mathematically alive in the ACC Championship Game race and continue its push for the AP Top 25 with a win over Boston College on Saturday.

The Dutch (6-2, 3-2 ACC) recorded an emotional victory over Virginia Tech last week, while the Eagles had an extra week to prepare. Boston College (4-4, 1-3) got off to a strong start this season under first-year coach Bill O’Brien, but lost three straight games.

Boston College has no playmakers other than quarterback Thomas Castellanos, but it does have a reputation for strong offensive line play and has three of the ACC’s 11 highest-rated offensive linemen on PFF.

The Dutch, which have struggled at tackle this year, will need to assemble both Castellanos’ scrambling abilities and a rotation of three competent running backs.

The game will be SU’s third outdoor game this year, following a win at North Carolina State and a loss in Pittsburgh.

Former Syracuse head coach Doug Marrone is part of the BC staff. He is listed as a senior analyst for football strategy and research.
