SZA took to social media to express her concerns about the resurgence of laughing gas, better known as whippits, and its potential mind-altering effects, particularly on black youth.

“Sorry to be old and annoying, but… Is no one going to talk about how the gas came out of nowhere and is being mass marketed to black kids?” the singer questioned on X. the government does NOTHING? .. since when do we sell whips in the store???? Someone has to protect the children.

The TDE singer also shared a screenshot detailing the potential side effects of laughing gas, which include neurological and psychiatric damage. In a follow-up tweet, she highlighted the disturbing use of playful designs and bright colors in Galaxy Gas’ marketing, asking: “Something about the childish designs and marketing is so creepy like.. stars and bright colors? Are you trying to tempt the kids on purpose?”

SZA’s comments quickly circulated on social media before being picked up by The Shade Room, where she faced backlash from critics who claimed the product had been around for years.

“Yeah.. I know whippits been around since we were younger. However, GALAXY GAS was founded in metro Atlanta in 2021 and is currently being marketed to CHILDREN,” the singer fired back. “It has childish branding and marketing and is being sold at Walmart and gas stations like cigarettes.. that is not normal. Stop being stupid and HELP THESE CHILDREN. Damn it.”

Galaxy Gas is primarily available through online platforms such as Amazon, where it offers a variety of appealing flavors such as strawberry cream, mango smoothie, vanilla cupcake and blue raspberry.

SZA isn’t the only artist speaking out. Rapper Little Gnar recently received some praise for his viral “Galaxy Gas” tutorial, which featured the Chief Keef The partner and signatory of 43B casually unscrewed the nozzle from the can and immediately threw it in the trash, making it clear that he wanted to dump the product.
