Taking stock of Ohio State’s 2025 recruiting class as the Buckeyes continue to pursue the best overall class

The American football season is in full swing and Ohio State is fully focused on winning its first national title since 2014.

But the Buckeyes also have a good shot at an honorary title, as they currently sit at No. 1 in 247Sports’ 2025 recruiting class rankings with 26 total commitments.

Even with a mostly complete class, Ohio State isn’t done chasing players from the prep ranks for next season. So with the fall visiting season in full swing, we take a look at where the Buckeyes stand at every position in the 2025 class and where they can still make additions.

Quarterback

Commitments: Tavien St. Clair
Open spaces: No
Potential targets: N/A

Storage: St. Clair remains a crown jewel of the Buckeyes’ 2025 recruiting class and has a chance to end up as the No. 1 quarterback in the 2025 cycle, depending on how his senior season goes. Either way, the five-star product has a bright future ahead of him in Columbus.

Run back

Commitments: Bo Jackson, Jesaja West
Open spaces: A
Potential targets:Anthony Rogers

Storage: Carlos Locklyn continues to search for a final piece to his first running back class during his time at OSU. Four-star prospect Anthony Rogers remains the Buckeyes’ most likely option. While the Alabama native is still committed to the Crimson Tide, Rogers is expected to take an official visit to OSU this season and he is still considering OSU. However, the Buckeyes face competition from Alabama, Georgia and Auburn for Rogers.

Wide receiver

Commitments: Quincy Porter, Phillip Bell, Bodpegn Miller, De’zie Jones
Open spaces: Between zero and one
Potential targets:Preston Bowman

Storage: Brian Hartline has assembled another talented wide receiver class, with Porter and Bell the most highly touted of the four. OSU is content to go with those four wideouts if necessary for the 2025 cycle. But it would also make room for Ohio prospect Preston Bowman if he so chooses, though the Pickerington North product is still committed to Kentucky at this point.

Tight end

Commitments: Nate Roberts, Brody Lennon
Open spaces: No
Potential targets: N/A

Storage: Ohio State went eight years without two tight ends in a recruiting class until Keenan Bailey signed two in the 2024 cycle. Now the Buckeyes are poised to have back-to-back multiple tight end recruiting classes with commitments from two four-star prospects in the 2025 cycle.

Offensive line

Commitments: Jayvon McFadden, Carter Lowe, Jake Cook
Open spaces: One or two
Potential targets: Damola Ajidahun, Micah DeBose

Storage: Justin Frye offered Georgia Tech four-star offensive tackle commit Damola Ajidahun this week after stopping by his practice on Monday, so there appears to be at least some mutual interest here. Ajidahun could take an official visit to OSU sometime in the coming weeks, and the Buckeyes could make a big push for him.

OSU also hasn’t given up on Alabama commit Micah DeBose. While the Buckeyes’ pursuit of DeBose is still a long way off at this point, St. Clair said over the weekend that DeBose is the best player Ohio State coaches are asking him to recruit.

“We’re trying to turn Micah DeBose around,” St. Clair said Eleven warriors on Friday. “I’m just trying to spice up that lineman class. We have three commitments now, but we want to add one more.”

Line of defense

Commitments: Jarquez Carter, Zahir Mathis, Zion Grady, London Merritt, Maxwell Roy, Trajen Odom
Open spaces: Zero or one
Potential targets: None, for now

Storage: Larry Johnson and OSU would likely be content to leave it at that with this group of six prospects, but I expect Johnson will keep an eye on the senior prospects who have breakout seasons, just in case, to be protected from unexpected turnovers.

Linebackers

Commitments: Tarvos Alford, Riley Pettijohn, Eli Lee
Open spaces: No
Potential targets: N/A

Storage: James Laurinaitis was under a lot of pressure to make an immediate impact in his first recruiting cycle as a full-time assistant, and he delivered. A trio of Alford, Pettijohn and Lee is about as good as it gets for the Buckeyes.

Corner defenders

Commitments: Na’eem Offord and Devin Sanchez
Open spaces: A
Potential targets: Dorian Brouwsel

Storage: Ohio State is still battling Auburn and Oregon to keep Offord committed, so if either of them loses in the coming weeks, it wouldn’t hurt the Buckeyes’ case. Whether Offord stays committed or ultimately flips, Tim Walton will still be hounding Oregon commit Dorian Brew all the way to National Signing Day.

Safety

Commitments: Faheem Delane, DeShawn Stewart, Cody Haddad
Open spaces: Zero or one
Potential targets: N/A

Storage: If the opportunity arises to land a highly touted safety late in the cycle, I have to believe the Buckeyes will jump at it. Still, OSU didn’t make a big push for top-200 prospect Messiah Delhomme before he committed to Maryland, so the Buckeyes are happy with the trio they have now. They’ll likely add another safety next season to bolster their depth, but that could happen through the transfer portal if they can’t find another player they like in the prep rankings.
