Taylor Swift was spotted walking apart from her best friend Brittany Mahomes at the Kansas City Chiefs game on Thursday, after the wife of quarterback Patrick Mahomes voiced her support for former President Donald Trump.

Brittany Mahomes has been a frequent companion of Swift’s since she began dating Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, and the two have typically been seen together in the same outfit at games — but Mahomes found herself in hot water with some Swift fans (and possibly Swift herself) after she liked a post from Donald Trump’s Instagram account outlining his plan to “Make America Great Again,” which included 20 posts such as “keep men out of women’s sports” and “cut off federal funding to any school that promotes Critical Race Theory.”

The backlash against Mahomes’ support came swiftly (pun intended), with Twitter/X users wondering “how people with kids would still vote for a known child molester/felon. I guess people like Brittany Mahomes choose the tax benefits over the safety of children.”

Mahomes fired back amid the online furor over her perceived support for Trump, writing in an Instagram post: “I mean honestly to be a hater as an adult you have to have some deep rooted issues that you refuse to heal from childhood. There is no reason your brain is fully developed and you hate to see others do well.”

She didn’t provide any further context about who the statement was directed at at the time, but given the fallout, she was likely trying to defend herself from detractors after liking the post. Mahomes eventually unliked the post and does not follow the former president on Instagram.

But none of that stopped Trump from expressing his appreciation for Mahomes earlier this week, writing on Truth Social, “I want to thank the wonderful Brittany Mahomes for defending me so vigorously.”

Swift has not yet endorsed any candidates in the 2024 presidential race, but has criticized Trump in the past for “fanning the fires of white supremacy and racism.” However, she notably did not publicly object after Trump posted AI-generated images of Swift’s likeness in fake “Swifties for Trump” posts on Truth Social last month.

Whether or not Mahomes and Swift are currently dealing with a rift in their relationship isn’t entirely clear, but considering the two were previously seen dancing, cheering on and hugging their sweethearts during Chiefs games and are now in separate suites, it’s safe to say there’s trouble in paradise.
