Teddy Atlas perfectly summarizes Mike Tyson’s performance against Jake Paul in just one word

After a bombastic promotion and an exciting fight week, Jake Paul and Mike Tyson failed to perform in the ring.

The eight-round bout saw Tyson in the ring at the age of 58, having retired completely in 2005. If he looked competitive at all, it was only in the first and second rounds. From there, Paul muscled his way to a unanimous decision, even taking the sting out of a few shots to spare the older man.

While many predicted this would be exactly how it would turn out, others started joining in on the hype, including many of Tyson’s former opponents like Lennox Lewis, Evander Holyfield and Larry Holmes.

During his live watchalong, famed trainer-gymnast-analyst Teddy Atlas had one word for all the people who were starting to believe that “Iron” Mike could turn back the clock and produce something close to a vintage performance.

“I have one word for all of you, and for myself, are you ready? Suckers!”

Atlas – who played a small role in coaching Tyson in the early days of his career – said even those who were absolutely convinced the heavyweight veteran had no chance would have signed up.

“I’m kidding, but we were all losers. We were all a part of it, we all bought into it and, look, we bought into it because we wanted to see it… Listen, we watched it for countless reasons. Curiosity. The man was iconic and it drew us in. What if?

Even those who were smart enough to just come out and say this is ridiculous, if you think anyone other than the 27 year old wins, you’re an idiot, you’re crazy, you’re fooling yourself. But they looked too… because you had to look. They get it. The man used to be the meanest man in the world, he punches him at the end. You had to look. Everyone would be there, you had to be there.”

Paul continues his career with a professional record of 11 wins and one loss. Fans will hope that Tyson has now satisfied any desire to fight again.
