Manchester United dropped points in their opening UEFA Europa League match of the season against FC Twente after Sam Lammers scored the equaliser in the 68th minute.

Christian Eriksen opened the scoring in the 35th minute with a rocket finish and it looked like United would cruise to three points. Twente’s Sam Lammers equalized for the Eredivisie side in the 68th minute with a left-footed shot past André Onana at his near post. Lars Unnerstall made a crucial left-footed save in injury time to deny United a winning goal.

Of the Premier League teams competing in UEFA tournaments this season, only Liverpool have secured three points in their opening match. Manchester City and Arsenal have drawn with Serie A sides Inter and Atalanta respectively; Chelsea have yet to play their Conference League opener.

Erik ten Hag’s side have won two of their last six games in all competitions, a 3-0 victory over 10-man Southampton in the league and a 7-0 thrashing of Barnsley in the Carabao Cup. United beat Twente 19-7 on the night at Old Trafford.

Manchester United’s next Europa League match is away to Porto on October 3.
