The Tennessee Titans trail by several scores against the Detroit Lions in Week 8, having simply fallen short in all three phases of the game.

Of the three phases, the Titans were particularly bad on special teams, where they made the Lions perform a feat not seen in a long time.

The Titans have allowed several big returns from specialist Kalif Raymond, who played for Tennessee from 2018 to 2020.

On four returns so far, Raymond has allowed 188 yards, which should be the best in the NFL this week. Additionally, Raymond also caught a touchdown pass from quarterback Jared Goff midway through the third quarter to increase Detroit’s lead.

Through three quarters, the Titans actually outplayed the Lions. Still, they’re down by five touchdowns, mostly because the special teams have been awful so far today.

If the Titans want to turn their season around and look competitive later in the season, they will need to clean things up in all three phases, especially special teams.

The Lions led 52-14 against the Titans late in the third quarter.
