  • Some minor weather-related travel issues could flare up for some through Wednesday.
  • A Thanksgiving system could cause travel disruptions in the East.
  • After that, lake effect snow and much colder air await.

For Thanksgiving holiday travel this year, we don’t see any major storms on the horizon. But that doesn’t mean areas with rain, snow or wind can’t cause headaches at the airport or on the road.

Below we look at both current conditions and the daily forecast through Sunday, along with some areas where delays or travel issues may occur.

After Thanksgiving

Friday

  • Possible travel problems: Lake effect snow belts can be heavy and winds can be strong in parts of the Great Lakes snow belts from upper Michigan to western and upstate New York. This could cause significant travel problems along small stretches of Interstate 90 from northeastern Ohio east of Cleveland to southwestern New York and Interstate 81 north of Syracuse, New York. Strong, cold winds are also expected in the rest of the Midwest. Otherwise, only a few showers, perhaps with thunder, are possible across the Florida Peninsula ahead of a cold front.
  • Possible delays due to weather at the airport: None are expected at the major hubs.
  • Good weather: Much of the rest of the country should be precipitation-free.
