“The Bear” Star Liza Colón-Zayas Makes History With 2024 Emmy Win Wearing Black Flats

Liza Colón-Zayas opted for comfort while making history. The star of “The Bear” attended the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards held Sunday at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, California. She wore a glittering off-the-shoulder green dress and shoes that were a departure from what the winners usually wear.

Colón-Zayas became the first Latina to win in the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series category for her role as Tina Marrero in “The Bear.” As she walked the red carpet, the long slipper of her dress covered most of her shoes but offered a glimpse of them, revealing that she was wearing pointy flats.

When she came on stage later that night to accept her award, her shoe became more visible. She was wearing flats with a small heel and a strap that went around her ankle and the top of the shoe.

While most nominees and attendees showed up in towering platform heels from Christian Louboutin or Jimmy Choo, the actress wore a pair of seemingly comfortable, yet supportive shoes. She held the train of her dress high enough to reveal the flat side as she walked to the microphone to deliver her acceptance speech, which she said she didn’t write because she never imagined winning.

The open-heeled shoes were made of a suede-like material and had an ankle strap that secured the shoes to her feet. These were probably the most comfortable shoes of the evening.

It was a big night for Colon-Zayas and her castmates on “The Bear.” The FX show broke its own record for most Primetime Emmys won by a comedy series in a single year, breaking its own record of 10 wins from the last Emmys.

Lead actor Jeremy Allen White and supporting actor Ebon Moss-Bachrach won again for their performances on the FX series. Colón-Zayas joined them in the press room for photos after becoming the first Latina to win the Emmy for Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series. She was up against Meryl Streep, Carol Burnett, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Janelle James and Hannah Einbinder.

The 76th Primetime Emmy Awards, hosted by Dan and Eugene Levy, will take place at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. The awards show is held to celebrate the best of television and recognize the talents of the industry’s leading figures. Some of the popular shows nominated for awards this year include “Fellow Travelers,” “Fargo,” “Baby Reindeer,” “Feud: Capote vs. The Swans,” “Griselda” and “True Detective: Night Country.”
