The Bruins’ terrible start is reaching a historic new low

The Boston Bruins suffered their worst loss of the season on Halloween, when they were defeated 8-2 by the Carolina Hurricanes. Every part of their play was sloppy and they have now fallen to a record of 4-6-1. Moreover, they have lost five of their last six games.

An interesting statistic shows just how rough the start to the season has been for the Bruins. According to Sportsnet, the Bruins’ 42 goals in 11 games are the most since the 1995-96 season. They finished that campaign with a record of 40-31-11.

The Bruins have built a reputation for their excellent goaltending and defense. But they haven’t gotten that far yet. Of course, the same could be said about their silent transgression.

After signing an eight-year, $66 million contract just before the season opener, Swayman has entered the season with a 3-4-1 record, a 3.57 goals-against average (GAA) and save percentage of .884 (SV%). Joonas Korpisalo has a 1-2-0 record, an .871 SV% and a 3.48 GAA.

It was just a bad start for the Bruins by all accounts. While they still have time to turn things around, they will need to bounce back immediately if they hope to be a legitimate playoff threat this year.
