The F1 community is fuming over Danica Patrick’s return as Sky Sports slams ex-world champion for her

Former IndyCar and NASCAR driver Danica Patrick was on sabbatical from her Formula 1 racing broadcasting duties. But she was seen back in action when Formula 1 returned to North America. The race in Austin, Texas, was her first appearance on Sky Sports after the long break, followed by her presence at the Mexican Grand Prix.

Now that the Formula 1 paddock has returned to Sin City, Danica Patrick is once again on the line-up of broadcaster Sky Sports. Sky Sports’ official social media account shared the footage of the broadcast team for the Las Vegas Grand Prix. Martin Brundle, Simon Lazenby and Danica were seen enjoying the picturesque view of the city from a plane.

“Is that the Hoover Dam?!” 🌊Martin, Danica and Simon take the scenic route to the Vegas circuit ✈” Sky Sports shared the promotional post about the race. Although Danica Patrick has made a name for herself racing in North America, the fans have not received her well. Whether it’s from NASCAR or IndyCar. Patrick is infamous for stirring up controversy, and this is one of the main reasons why fans hate her.

So when Sky Sports dropped the promotional video, fans were quick to voice their opinions on Danica’s inclusion in the presenter’s line-up. What further infuriated fans was the fact that former F1 driver and reputed presenter Damon Hill was rejected while Patrick found her place.

The reason Damon Hill is because Hill and Sky Sports recently announced that he would be ending his career as a pundit after ten years with the company. In addition to his presence at real races, the F1 legend also appeared on their podcast. While there is no clear reason for the split, fans suspect that Hill got the ax in favor of newer presenters.

For fans who may not know, the 1996 F1 World Champion won 22 races in his career, mostly with the Williams F1 team. Even though Danica Patrick was present at the pre-race shows for Las Vegas, it felt like too much for fans to see her take Damon Hill’s place.

Fans are threatening to boycott watching the race in Vegas because of Danica Patrick

Both individuals are con

Last year the race in Las Vegas was broadcast on the ESPN network and had a rather strange start timing to help the European fans. But despite the early start time in the morning, the event attracted a good viewership of 1.32 million views. However, Danica’s return for another F1 race with Sky is not something this fan is looking forward to. The fan made a bold prediction with the threat of not watching the race on Sky, returned the favor and wrote this on X: “Danica = don’t look.” Sky Sports is one of the largest broadcast partners for F1, with a majority of countries watching races on their platform.

The media landscape has certainly changed over the past decade. With the growth of streaming networks, young fans in general are drawn to watching live sports with easy internet access. Although Danica will be on Sky Sports, this fan has found an alternative to get away from her presence and enjoy F1 racing. ‘Danica is the worst. I’m glad I re-set up my F1 TV so I don’t have to watch her anymore.” The F1 TV Pro allows fans to stream the races along with exclusive insights about the race.

Usually, the presenters and announcers have a contract signed by the media company allowing them to participate in sporting events. Of course, the audience’s feedback and reaction are the crucial factors that determine the line-up. But despite the constant peppering, Danica somehow lands a new gig, but how is this possible? Well, this user on “I assume Patrick must have a contract or something that you have to fulfill. I’ve never seen a media company stick with such a downright terrible expert, who brings no additional insight or value to the company and only serves to be controversial. but not in any remotely relevant way.”

With Damon Hill out, fans think Martin Brundle will be next. This trend of the network dissing former drivers and industry veterans has infuriated this fan. In response, the racing fan wrote: “@SkySportsF1 losing Damon Hill and keeping Danica Patrick is absolute madness. Hill became the 1996 #Formula1 World Champion, with 115 Grand Prix starts, 22 race wins, 42 podiums, 20 pole positions and 19 fastest laps. Against Danica Patrick with 0 F1 entries. Make it meaningful.”

Now it is indeed hard to imagine fans not watching a race just because they don’t like a presenter. As baffling as it may sound, there are some ardent Danica Patrick haters who would rather watch the race highlights than the live broadcast. “…one of those is why I’m going to watch C4F1 highlights. 👍”
