The head men’s basketball coach at the University of South Florida has died

TAMPA – The head basketball coach at the University of South Florida has died. According to USF Athletics, 43-year-old Amir Abdur-Rahim died on Thursday.

Abdur-Rahim was undergoing a medical procedure at a Tampa-area hospital when he died of complications.

“All of us at South Florida Athletics join in the mourning with Coach Abdur-Rahim’s loved ones,” said Vice President of Athletics Michael Kelly.

Abdur-Rahim signed a contract extension with USF early this year and led the Bull to their first regular-season conference championship.

He was also the first USF coach to be named conference coach of the year.
